Farewell Ceremony for the Late Brigadier Moinuddin Ahmed, UNMIS Deputy Force Commander

The United Nations Mission In Sudan Deputy Force Commander was shot and killed in his home country, Pakistan, this morning (22 Oct 2009). Brigadier-General Moin-ud-din Ahmed was on vacation visiting his family in Islamabad when the incident happened. In a memorial ceremony held at UNMIS headquarters in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sudan Ashraf Jehangir Qazi said he strongly condemns the barbaric killing of Brigadier General Ahmed Muinuddin. He extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the Government of Pakistan and hopes that the perpetrators responsible for this heinous act are soon brought to justice.

I lost my best friend of 33 years and confidante on 22nd October 2009, Brigadier Moin-ud-Din Ahmed, or, just 'Meenu' for me!

We have shared and enjoyed many happy and some difficult times together.

Meenu served Pakistan with pride and distinction.

He leaves behind a wife, a daughter and three sons.

It was pleasure and privilege for me and my family to share life and friendship with Meenu and his family.
