Laika's Coffin

An epic tale based on the biography of the doomed first animal in space. Three suitcases open to reveal remarkable miniature Soviet-inspired sets while an operatic narrator and three puppeteers animate the melancholy saga. Laika's Coffin is a toy theater production which first premiered at Collaboraction's Sketchbook 2007 where it won best director and best production.

I unfortunately have not gotten to see Laika live but the video makes me eager and hopeful that I will sometime in the future. What a story and such a beautiful way to tell it. Are you guys doing it around Chicago again anytime soon?

I love this piece. I first saw it at Collaboraction's Sketchbook and it has been in my mind ever since. I am going to see the CHF performance of Laika this Saturday at the MCA. I can't wait.

I love this show and have always been fascinated by the story of little Laika! I saw the latest iteration of it with the chorus of children and think that it adds to the emotional impact of the piece. Bravo Red Moon!

Thanks to all those who came out and saw the new, improved rendition of LAIKA'S COFFIN at the Great Small Works Festival in NYC last week. We had a blast! Keep an eye out for Laika as she may be preparing to show up again in the not-so-distant future! Until then, Commrades!
