The "New" LAV3Stryker wheeled infantry wagon dates back to 1954: a competent U.S. Army rejected it 53 years ago!

Page 77 of Hunnicutt's book "Bradley: a History of American Fighting and Support Vehicles" shows the post-Korean war U.S. Army considered wheeled tin cans to motorize troops along with cross-country-mobile tracks. The "revolutionary", "new" road-bound wheels were rejected and M113 Gavin tracks were built; 57 years of combat success has followed ever since. Those that say LAV3/Strykers are "newer" are incompetent ignorants of armored vehicle history or willing liars.

Look at the recent PBS documentary, "Afghanistan: the Other War", Go to 2:58 and see why the Canadians have gone to tracks in Afghanistan like other smarter armies, Brits, Dutch etc. Canadian LAV-IIIs hopelessly stuck in mud, breaks main bearing, mission aborted

The weak egotist attracted to all volunteer (victim) military service wants canned formulas for everything. When the formula doesn't work he lacks the personal internal self-esteem to admit a mistake and start over; he must deny the failure lest his mental house of cards collapses. The computer-in-everything is the hoped-for "Mother may, I?" gadgetry he depends on as a technocrutch to AVOID "problems" like combat and just call for somebody elses's firepower to wipe out the enemy so the gunslinger narcissists need only jump out and strike a sexy pose with their sunglasses. Problem is that the ENEMY (remember him?) has a VOTE on the non-linear battlefield and he doesn't have to go along with our RMA/firepower/doctrinal label BS. When the 309 Stryker LAVtrucksters couldn't be hid amongst the 140, 000 troops in Iraq and started getting blown up driving into road ambushes they couldn't avoid, an internal Army report surfaced showing fatal flaws were known BEFORE the naive narcissist troops who don't know "what right looks like" (never had experience in M113 Gavin light armored tracks to have a standard to make comparisons with) were thrust into the non-linear SASO racket clusterfuck in Iraq. In Afghanistan, the Canadians discovered their LAV-3s got stuck and broke down so badly, they had to abandon forward bases and terrain to the Taliban. To their credit, they had the humility and professionalism to switch to Leopard 1 medium tanks and advanced "M113A4" Gavin tracks following the lead of the British and Dutch Royal Marines who had earlier gone to tracked armored mobility. The American volunteer military mind imbued by greed and narcissism to try to fill a void in his/her life (godless existentialism) is ill-suited for combats if the establishment formula created before by better men than themselves collapses. No amount of computerization can make you smart if you refuse to face facts and think.

Even if you are not immediately incinerated killed or maimed, being constantly ambushed by the enemy because your wheeled truck cannot leave roads/trails/streets is damaging to us. Taxpayers hurt. Enemy happy. Civilians see Americans cannot defend themselves much less them.

What matters in war is VICTORY--not prolonged operations however "brilliantly executed" (Sun Tzu said this--but since when do light infantry narcissists READ or THINK? Why bother listing sources?)

If we go broke operating easily ambushed wheeled trucks we will be forced to leave Iraq as surely as being defeated in a WW2-style pitched battle.

If you buy into the Canadian-made Stryker wheeled truck created by the liberal, big-government Clinton administration to do feel-good nation-building that is killing/maiming our Soldiers, that makes you a liberal, doesn't it?

"The deadly roadside bombs have killed 22 of the 26 Canadian Soldiers who have died in Afghanistan over the past six months.

But tanks tend not to be the target of choice for the Taliban because of the protection they offer to those inside.

Lt.-Col. Stephane Lafaut, the incoming commander of the Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team in Afghanistan, said Tuesday that IEDs tend to be used more by the Taliban to target other vehicles -- such as Canada's LAV3, Nyala and Bison armoured vehicles -- instead of tanks."

  • it has anti-rpg cage and is average!maybe some reactive armor will be useful

  • Wheeled Strykers can't handle the weight of a cage let alone ERA tiles.

  • But do ERA protects those veichles?the fact is that they weren't built for urban warfare!!

  • Most Stryker trucktards boast that they ARE built for "urban warfare"--you should consult with them so your excuses and lies are in synch. The enemy doesn't give a crap about them; if you are stupid he will kill you. Current Strykers don't have ERA.

  • Get me in a modern APF/IFV? OK, I'll take the Israeli Namer...

  • Wow and I thought direct impingement was a problem. Now there's another one, wheeled vehicles. The only advantage to having wheels is that it's a lot quieter but the reliability of tracks outweigh that big time.

  • Clinton's man Shinseki purged a lot of tactically sound officers who know tracks are what works right and who opposed the wheeled peacenik "presence patrol" non-sense that is killing our men in Iraq/A-stan today.

  • Go cross-country in light tracks you'll run into even less land mines and lose less men.

  • oh dear america is really gona waste money and lives with this one. What an overpriced piece of crap. Im sure its great for going around the nice concrete roads of iraq and keeping the boys inside safe from ieds but anywhere else its bloody useless. all it takes is 1 guy with an rpg or a very slight ditch and that thing is screwed. When were gona be fighting proxy wars against china we need better than this crap.

  • nice to see how the pigs enter through the ass hole of the Stryker to get grilled. They want air condition too!! fucking cowards Smokem´em out from that asshole
