Today 34,009 have traded hands today, roughly $186,166,550 for this strike alone. As we were typing this article another 3k contracts printed, 2k at the high of the day of $59.

To give you an idea of the average daily volume, SMF took a look at the average weekly volume since the inception of this contract and that average is 8,871 contracts weekly. Today's put buying on this S&P 500 contract brings the weekly total to 98,324. This represents a 1,108% increase when compared weekly average of 8,871.

I wonder what if these contracts were sold short instead. For stocks we can look up the short interest but for options I wonder if there is way to find out too. Thanks for the vids they're very helpful! :)

@2Eastport TVIX was a great short on the open today, we're in the heart of an options expiration and we'll be updating the weekly trends for the S&P 500 and the inverse ETFs like SDS and SPXU. $14.25 is the monthly support on SPXU and we're definitely down to the bottom range on a monthly chart, just need to confirm $15.29 will hold, hope that helps.

These people who gamble on these puts...IN BULK...every time we've done these updates on these massive purchases they've gone worthless, 1st was 9/14/2010 the 2nd 9/30/2011, and today being the 3rd. The difference is they always go to $0 when they buy the highs...this time they're buying the lower end of the contract..so...we'll wee!
