Thats kinda accurate, my other guess was the destruction of the earth through different means but im probably wrong xD. I thought the legless soldier meant war, the bird meant killing off animals, the shadow was deforestation, the wrecking ball was building up industry and polution, the buinessman on the ice was the melting glacier, and the ghost was ultimately our end, which was death. I thought the spider was merely wrapping up all the destruction and leaving it covered in darkness and death.

A lot of meaning in this video, from what i know about the video it shows a lot of feeling of each character that follow him along and my theory is this:

Legless soldier: I'll protect you, even if it takes my body away

The Bird: I don't just love you, but i also love animals

Shadow from the woods: I may be strong, but i'm emotional as well

Wrecking ball: I'll build up our future family

Businessmen: i'll pay the debts

Ghost: even death will not stop our love

Spider: means nothing to me! (Break up

Yeah I agree with the idea that its about destruction, not hope…

I disagree about the spider though. I think that the video is saying that even those causing the destruction - war, deforestation, pollution, etc - are tired of their own destruction. The spider covers up everything; a thin veil to hide what has been wrought, so they can escape from what they have done…

Don't you see, this song isnt about the human race in general, although anyone can have their own interpretation, mine is that its about human imperialism, the soldiers marching in with a man who tells everyone what to do but also it could be about as trackershark said, the human race ending itself. maybe a bit of each. maybe that the human race is out to conquer and kill and destroy but it can be fixed.

I have to disagree, though your idea is very well thought out it seems far to positive for the video. I think that each creature represent what has already been given up for this ultimatly doomed love:

The Soldier would mean I all ready lost my body trying to protect you.

The Bird would mean i sacraficed the animals for you.

The Shadow would mean my strength was not enough for you.

The wrecking ball means future has already been destroyed.

and so on in that way
