Legacy Walk: honouring Canada's military at Garrison Crossing (Chilliwack, B.C.)

Before it was redeveloped into one of Canada's best places to live, Garrison Crossing was CFB Chilliwack, the home base for Canada's military engineers (known also as "Sappers").

To honour the site's storied military past, Canada Lands Company opened the first phase of the Legacy Walk at Garrison Crossing in the spring of 2006. The Legacy Walk's interpretive plaques pay tribute to the role the Canadian military played in Chilliwack's history, weaving its story into the heart of the community. In 2009, CLC opened phase two of the Legacy Walk with a moving rededication ceremony for the All Sappers Memorial -- a product of CLC's ongoing work with retired and active military personnel in the Chilliwack community.

Avant sa transformation en un des meilleurs quartiers au Canada, Garrison Crossing était la BFC Chilliwack, la base des Sapeurs militaires canadiens.

Pour rendre hommage à ce fameux passé militaire, la Société immobilière du Canada a inauguré la première phase de la promenade du patrimoine à Garrison Crossing, au printemps 2006. Les panneaux d'interprétation de la promenade saluent le rôle des militaires canadiens dans l'histoire de Chilliwack, en soulignant leur histoire au cœur de la collectivité. En 2009, la SIC a inauguré la deuxième phase de la promenade du patrimoine, lors d'une émouvante cérémonie pour dédier à nouveau le monument à tous les Sapeurs -- résultat de l'étroite collaboration entre la SIC et des militaires retraités ou en service de la collectivité de Chilliwack.
