Everyday this song means more and more.
It seems that we are heading towards something big and I fear that the suffering on this planet will increase tenfold....

A sad death to all.

I have a dream, that israel and palestine may try to live in peace, no war, FREE PALESTINE!

Jó! Kommunizmus. Fasza videó!

Interesting point, and I agree as far as the lyrics, but I think the imagery of the video clearly shows a discomfort with *totalitarian* collectivism.

MTV actually played this song back then.. Hard to believe with all the crap it plays now.

@bowlsallbroken I disagree. I don't think its giving a treatise on which is better at all. I think it clearly advocates for communitarianism, however it acknowledges that there seems to be this underlying greedy individualistic force in people which drives us apart. I do recognize your point though, and you are right that there is no easy answer. Cheers.

I just re-watched this for the first time in a while and I think I have a more complete understanding of it now.
One of the most important questions we face as a species is where the proper balance point is between individualism and collectivism. My take-away from the lyrics and images is simply that there are no easy answers to this question - it leaves the true thinker split.

Sound of Silence by Paul Simon with the thought of peace & unity.wmv

You know this is old just because it has the Mtv logo in the corner. Back in the day before it became nothing more than a shill for corporate sponsors and shitty pop singers.

Socialism could work if we were technologically capable of planning an economy as complex as ours...and then convincing the world to do the same lol. unfortunately, we're just not there yet. till then, people will stray toward more selfish ways, have no control, and just try to get by. we need a better goal...so lets educate ourselves, improve technology, our political system...and finally create a highly efficient government that can provide for all fairly.
