Podcasting usually comes with RSS, which usually means a comments section somewhere. Go back to the site where the podcast is posted and you're likely to have a venue for return channel communication. I commented on a space podcast once and the following podcast spent 20 minutes answering my comment. Also, to the point of this video, you record your podcast, then I record my podcast in response - we both can 'cause it's so cheap and easy - we're communicating back and forth.

"Center for Journalism and Communication Research at the University of Texas at Austin in the USA proposed a four-part definition of a podcast: A podcast is a digital audio or video file that is episodic; downloadable; programme-driven, mainly with a host and/or theme; and convenient, usually via an automated feed with computer software". One of the key words in the all definitions for podcasting is "episodically".

A reply on a podcast is not "episodic" by definition therefore not a true "podcast" but rather a "response video".Therefore, I would rather consider podcasting as a tool for social media. ( not that all these make any significant difference in practice , only theoretically)

Point taken, though I think we might be getting into splitting hair territory. Do you have a link for that Center for Journalism quote? I'd love to blog about it.
