"I Want You To Want Me" was a song by Cheap Trick which first appeared on their second album "In Color" in 1977. It was the first single released from that album, and although it didn't chart in the U.S., it was a #1 single in Japan. The band capitalized on this early popularity in Japan with their famous concerts at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on April 28 and 30, 1978. These performances were recorded for the group's most popular album, 1978's "Cheap Trick At Budokan", with an audience of 12,000 screaming Japanese fans nearly drowning out the band at times. The album was originally intended for release only in Japan but with strong airplay of the promotional album "From Tokyo To You", an estimated 30,000 import copies were sold in the United States and the album was released domestically in February 1979. In the U.S., the album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 and became the group's best-selling album with over three million copies sold. A live version of "I Want You To Want Me" from "Cheap Trick At Budokan" was released in 1979 and became their biggest-selling single, reaching #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Cheap Trick At Budokan" was ranked number 430 in Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2003. Cheap Trick is an American rock band from Rockford, Illinois, formed in 1974. The band consists of members Robin Zander (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick Nielsen (lead guitar, backing vocals), Tom Petersson (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Bun E. Carlos (drums, percussion). Cheap Trick continues to tour with their most well known-lineup. They have often been referred to in the Japanese press as the 'American Beatles'. In October 2007, the Illinois Senate passed a resolution designating April 1 as Cheap Trick Day in the state. The band was also ranked #25 in VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.
