in the High Andean weavers Village of Quenqo, located 45 km outside of Cusco Peru at 4000m ASL. The spinning of threads, is ... all » incorporated into all daily activities of the Andean women. The traditional Andean spinning top hand spindle called a Puscha is used to make threads from the raw wool. The threads are dyed and get a second spinning using two threads intertwined to complete the final working thread.

  • Olé la gente andina!

  • Wow~ I love it! I'm a pretty new spinner and amazed that they get their yarn sooo thin! Aahhh~ to be able to spin all day long and noone to tell you to stop~ LOL! I've always loved Andean music, especialy the songs that take you away to a more peaceful place!

I would love to go to Peru, also Mongolia, and countries where they spin as a way of life, and live off of the land, surrounded by nature~ now THATS the life! {I'd do anything to get out of Brooklyn!LOL!!!} Thanks so much, huggys~ Dora :)

  • the slow motion video portion is very helpful for viewing the hand technique for predrafting the fibers and long draw semi-worsted spinning technique on a drop spindle!!

  • A beautiful video! I was finally convinced to create a YouTube account because I could not resist complimenting this fantastic video.

I cannot imagine taking the time to spin that much thread, let alone the constructing fabric and then clothing out of it. It is a beautiful art! Thank you for sharing it with the world.

  • Thank you so much for this vodeo! I watch it frequently, it's fantastic. When people ask me why I spin wool, I always send them link to this video. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • thanks for posting. i was researching how to use the peruvian spindle i purchased recently, and the slow motion and close-ups are very helpful in showing how it's used.

  • Sigh...They make it look so easy! Ah, well i can console myself with the knowledge that they've probably been spinning since they were children.... and I've only been doing it for about a month. :D

  • Awesome! Thank you for the close ups of the women's hands! I wish my technique was as efficient as this!
