What's the "great" in this overtake?, Villeneuve had a best car so I don't see nothing special.
-
@PSF1 actually it was his team-mate and crew that he told about the pass beforehand, and they told him that he would never be able to pull it off
-
@JVSauber im from estoril and i can say that curve is fast tide and long and pass in a f1 car its the most amazing move i see in estoril f1 races its impossibel 2 do 2 times in 1 life

@mikel1982 You see sparks, because the bottom of the car touched the road, as many times those days. That's what I think...
-
anybody got the interview after this race when Schumacher was telling Villeneuve he was insane for trying a move like that and Villeneuve had a grin on his face and said "Why don't you come race Indy Ovals" Im paraphrasing of course
-
Respect to Villenueve, but I don't see why people love this move so much. The Williams is a fundamentally quicker car, with a much better Renault engine when the drag kicks in along the straight. Schumacher almost came to a juddering halt out of the penultimate corner, if you watch his car's live footage instead of Villenueve's. See also Schumacher is stuck against the apex curb so tightly that he has to feather the throttle on and off, Villeneuve can straddle the outside nicely. Nostalgia, ey..

One of the best overtaking moments in F1.

was there contact at 0:19, I see sparks

@giovannighaly It was a brilliant move but there was such a huge difference between the 96 Williams and Ferrari and Schumacher really had no business being that far up the field to begin with... that can't be overlooked.
What was great about this pass is that JV told Schumacher he would pass him at Parabolica. Schumacher said he was insane and that it could not be done... I guess Schumacher did not understand that they pass on the outside in ChampCars all the time.
