I blame my parents for buying me my first guitar
and I blame Andy for teaching me Nirvana songs.
I blame the business for dangling carrots on a string.
I beg forgiveness of anybody listening
'cause I'm not complaining, it's just hard to take it
when all the bands I used to play with either broke up or got famous,
at least relatively so and you know that it's true.

The world punched me in the stomach this morning
and I don't want to get out of bed.
All of these songs I'm recording
might be better off spending consecutive life sentences in my head.

I blame the kids that sing along at all my shows.
They are all convincing me this is something that I need to do.
I still blame the business for carefully stringing me along
with just enough interest that I'll bury myself in songs
and I'm not complaining 'cause I used to hate when
bands would bitch about the business before they ever even made it
and now I'm borrowing their shoes.
Yes, it's true and I don't know what to do.

You said first and foremost you're a fan and that's all
but now you're not returning my calls
and through all of this I've learned a few things
like it is not enough just to be
a decent human being, heart plastered to your sleeve,
hooks brimming out of your ears and mouth and dripping to your feet.

Whenever you release an album I'm buying it for sure. This, Going Out Living and New Year's Eve are all top freakin class songs man.
