still birth

Still Birth was an exploration of beginnings and endings written for the Debutant Ball Art Festival and performed at the Bella Muse Gallery, Montreal in April 2006.
This performance, inspired by Butoh a modern Japanese dance which depicts a physically impaired and diseased or dead states and Conspirators of Pleasure a movie directed by Jan Svankmajer, was an uneasy anticlimactic narrative. Two figures were first presented, and born. One, born frail and unbalance quickly learned to use its body and mind. The other was born dead. The living young chaotically screams until it is surprised by its mother who is mixing substances and playing a solitaire game with numbers . The young bird inspects her sister. She finds the diseased energy inside and performs a paranormal surgical procedure to remove physical manifestations of the spiritual problem from the corpses lower intestine. The child recovers and asks her sister what happened.

i am not ashamed. i am an artist who comments artistically on things that god provides but that people are afraid to talk about

you must have been looking to talk about still births to have found my work. i imagine that you were looking for a place to be a victim and perhaps didn't find that freedom in my piece. death, disapointment and betrayal are all very real parts of all our lives. theres is nothing to be ashamed of noticing this.

I find it so ridiculous that people are offended by this. It seems the art piece is created to explore the pain experienced during such difficult times in people's lives. I see no mockery, just darkness and pain, and there's no reason artists shouldn't be allowed to explore whichever themes move them. You have no idea what their life history is or what pain they have been through, maybe they understand that loss very well. There was nothing graphic, it was all metaphor, artistic explorations

I think that some people never really connect with their spiritual side and will always misunderstand art of this nature . They need to go study the history of art , from Rembrandt to Nerdrum.

I'm not sure what to say to this. For people it's easy to make bad choices about things they do not understand. If you or someone you love had ever been through a stillbirth you would not make a mockery of it. It's the most devastating thing a person can ever go through. Moving past your ignorance I will pray that you never have to experience it. God's blessings to you & your's.
