This is a passive ring modulator using two Radio Shack audio transformers (center-tapped) and four 1n34a germanium diodes. I'll give an audio demonstration in a later video. It's a common schematic; I found it on the internet. This type of circuit was originally used to modulate radio signals, but can be used for audio frequencies as a special effect. The bass response is not very good, but I presume that with a transformer upgrade, it can be improved. This was my first successful project employing "low tech" construction as done by Radioam232 (Ko Tilman). Check out his channel for interesting schematics and good building tips.

  • why not just use perf board

  • @halcyon180 This is historically how circuits were made. There's nothing wrong with giving it a shot. :)

  • Yeah where is he? I loved watching his videos. He's not the only person who puts up heaps of videos for free and asks for nothing back. Check out "thenewboston" channel, all of his videos are here on youtube but Youtube allow revenue sharing so he gets a profit like that. Radioam232 (Ko Tilman) if you are reading this please make your videos available for the greater knowledge of everyone.

  • @wasssup1990 Cool, thanks for that info. I always liked how Ko focused on the art of electronics and didn't try to pull any gimmicks. It made any purchasing of his books a simpler decision, knowing that you would not get ripped off.

  • I'm lucky, Am I the only one who has Radioam232's (ko tilman's) E-mail? but I just sent a message to him, but Seriously WHY IS THE CHANNEL GONE????

  • @stormsirens2 nope, i've got his email too. he told me why he left youtube: it seemed to be mainly because no one was purchasing his books. i don't understand why that meant he had to leave youtube, but as i recall, this is what he told me. very unfortunate.

  • Excellent! This is a real "breadboard" like we used when I was a kid.

  • @radioam232 Where has your channel gone?

  • I remember reading about these back in school!
