  • well i wouldn't say it swims... i would say it floats ...

  • Well, it goes forward and backward. Other than it does not have a propeller, I'm not too sure how else it would swim. It was designed to cross small water obstacles. It can dis-embark from a landing craft. Once going, it goes OK.

  • are these still in active service?

  • The Gamagoat was replaced by the HUMVEE. There are reports that the Gamagoat was used during Desert Storm by the Australian army (not confirmed). There are also reports that it was still recently used in Afghanistan (also not confirmed).

The military does not allow any sales of the Gamagoat to the public anymore, they now have to be de-milled.

  • Do they Swim?????????

  • Yes, this video was taken in shallow water just in case it sank. This was the first swim. If you look at the tires, you will see them churning the water. Also look at "Gamagoat M561 swim 005", this was at deeper water (I was not scared on this ride).

  • are the tires the only thing that provides propulsion in the water?

  • @virus56777 DITTO!

  • I drove a goat a couple of times in Germany. They look cool but realy lack in performance and safety.

  • Not the worst camera work I've ever seen but it ranks right up there.

  • So the trick is to approach the shoreline at right angle, and keep the speed up. I heard the same thing about steep hills, with these

  • hyuk hyuk

  • @abergethirty I didn't say the Jeep replaced the goat, I said the HUMMVV replaced the jeep...and I am sure the Goat as well. CUCV's are still in service.

  • @m561gamagoat The Gamagoat replaced three types, not just the Gamma Goat. It also replaced the Jeeps and the CUCV's.

  • @kevink82 The Jeep didn't replace the goat, they served differant roles at the same time. The HUMMVV replaced the the Jeep, Gamma Goat, and the CUCV's. In other words, all of the small light utility vehicles.

  • m561gamagoat ! You lucky SOB, I was a gamagoat driver for my platoon back in the 80's. I loved the HELL out of that vehicle. It was durable, versatile, powerful and a few more adjectives I could throw in. I've always wanted to find one through DoD surplus, but just never had the scratch. The wheels and tires actually helps it float and fijords shallow water crossings. Especially if the treads on the tire's are fresh. I was a 12 Bravo ( Combat Engineer ). 1st In, Last Out
