Think of being there. I guess it was really funny for the actors when this particular scene was filmed - to hear someone play emotionally random notes - as they pretend listening to the actual piece of music.

Actually, there is no one "Folies" piece (also often spelt "Folia," "Follia" or even "Foglia")

The term refers to a harmonic progression that usually takes about 30 seconds to play. Many composers (Including Vivaldi, Corelli, Salieri and Handel, as well as Romantic-period composers) have composed sets of variations around this wonderful progression.

A set that goes for 18 minutes would just be the theme played about 30 times. :)
