Bessie Smith (April 15, 1894 -- September 26, 1937) was an American blues singer.
Sometimes referred to as The Empress of the Blues, Smith was the most popular female blues singer of the 1920s and 1930s. She is often regarded as one of the greatest singers of her era and, along with Louis Armstrong, a major influence on subsequent jazz vocalists.

  • I love Bessie, and this is one of my favorite songs by her. Parenthetically, that's a pretty nice looking butt in the picture.

  • A great addition to my Bessie Smith "Playlist".

Thank you for sharing this great post.

  • My thumb's for the picture :)

  • Berlin's abilities as a lyricist are usually overlooked. But anyone who can string together the four incredible monosyllables Brass Band Grand Stand is a genius.n Love Bessie.

  • According to Public Domain Songs this original recording from 1921 is public domain, as are all other songs and audio recordings made prior to 1922. So this version is not Public Domain. Finding Public Domain music is not easy.
