  • I saw them (minus Tommy) at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on UND Campus in the late 80s....Grand Forks ND. I was 4th row center and JY was about to throw his pick...I yelled out "Jaa YYYY" and he looked right at me, flicked the pick...and it took a dive in the front row. He looked at me again and shrugged his shoulders as if apologizing and frown.....Was a cool moment even though I didn't get the pick....

Must have been 1990 or 1991. They toured in support of "Edge Of The Century" with Glen Burtnik in place of Tommy Shaw.

  • @speedking Could've been. That was over 20 y/a so memory could be foggy on the time frame. I do remembr that Burnik must've thought he was God's gift to female Styx fans as we was doing pelvic thrusts all over the stage. Was glad they got rid of him and got Tommy back.

Glenn Burtnik has been in and out of Styx a couple of times. He did vocals & guitar when Tommy was out in the early 90's. Then he filled in for Chuck on bass for Dennis DeYoung's last show with Styx in June of 1999. Then he was on vocals/bass for a few years until he left Styx in 2005 or 2006. Interestingly, he's back playing with Dennis on some solo shows in recent years.

  • This guy is a tremendous guitarist.

  • @dongtingwong He said no less than a half dozen times that Styx' success was thanks to the right mix of people, never himself. Not even Dennis would claim that it was ALL created by him.

  • No your not here today, Tommy Shaw JY Chuck and some guy playing piano called Gowan, and Ricky on bass. And Todd on drums that a not Styx....sorry but Dennis NEEDS to come back...

  • JY really is an amazing guitarist, if you see some videos from Caught in the Act live, he really reminds me of Eddie Van Halen at times. If only him and DDY still got along, it'd be amazing but, what ya gonna do?

  • JY is a class act. Awesome interview!

  • i wish there was more of JY on YouTube! he's wonderful!

  • You da Man, JY! You are responsible for all those hours I spent on my "air guitar" performing in front of THOUSANDS, in my room, when I was growing up! Love ya, Bro! Keep rockin'. May I add... Rest in Peace, John.

  • @suzyqblues Who cares??!!

  • JY.. You are AMAZING! I am SOOO Happy that you and the guys are playing at Fallsview Casino this fall. THANK-YOU SO MUCH for adding an extra show this year. Looking forward to seeing you guys again. BTW.. I will be going to two of your shows Sept 30 and Oct 1/10.. trying to raise money for the show on Saturday. Will you guys be playing next year's.. New Year's Eve? I missed it this year..had to babysit. It would be nice to do a combo with Dennis DeYoung.. what do you think about that?

  • Hello, JY...from Susan, Knut Young's granddaughter.
