The studio version covering the relatively obscure but certainly lost classic upbeat Doo-Wop tune, originally performed by the great Soul and R&B group The Marvelows in 1965. Their original version, a Top 40 hit that went to #7 on the R&B chart and #37 on the Pop chart. This was a group that I was not aware of at all until I heard the cover version by J. Geils Band. The Marvelows are an underrated group and I understand why J. Geils Band would perform a cover of one of their songs. Those guys could perform!

Throughout their career, The J. Geils Band performed many cover songs of often obscure R&B and Soul hits. When I went back to those original hits, I realized all of them were great in their own right. The fact that their covers were more obscure than some of the songs groups like the Rolling Stones and The Beatles were covering was also refreshing.

The J. Geils Band pretty much helped both reintroduce and introduce me to great R&B and Blues artists like Don Cavoy, John Lee Hooker, Bobby Womack, Otis Rush, The Showstoppers. The list goes on! I also gained a much bigger appreciation for classic Blues songs and artists as well by listening to these guys.

This has to be one of my favorite of their many cover songs, but the one thing that remained constant with them was that they always picked the best cover songs. Even some of The J. Geils Band's more obscure songs are some of their best and most under-looked songs. So they share that aspect of their career with the very same groups they covered like groups like The Showstoppers
