ArmA mods: ACE vs ECS vs XAM infantry fighting

ArmA mods: ACE vs ECS vs XAM infantry fighting. Mainly comparing the ambient battle sounds created by these mods. There is a tank/vehicle battle going on just outside of the town.

This only scratches the surface of what these mods are doing, like with the mathematics behind the scenes that effect gameplay to make it more realistic. Also not included in this video is the changes in air units.

ACE mod: I like the explosion effects/sounds of the ACE mod. Also it has really nice tracers and other visual effects. The bullet crack sounds aren't that great. It has a ton of great units and weapons and a nice first aid system. Also you can drag injured soldiers. The AI seems to be very cautious and aware of distant threats. 633MB download.

ECS mod: I like the sounds in this mod, the bullet crack is decent. Good explosion effects, burning crewmen, visible fire damage if you get too close to a fire. I like how the AI will lay down suppressing fire in your general direction even if they can't see you anymore, like shooting at a building you're in, and they will come in looking for you too. This doesn't happen with the other mods' AI. If you are under heavy fire, you're character will start breathing heavy and cursing. The AI also has speech both English and Russian, that is mostly relevant to the situations. 168MB download.

XAM mod: I like the bullet crack sounds in this mod the best, I think it adds alot to the battle atmosphere. XAM adds some new and reskinned units. I like the way AI units will surrender sometimes although you can't take them prisoner like in the old ECP mod for Operation Flashpoint. The explosions in this mod are way over the top. There's too much of the same rod-shaped debris that comes spraying out in a sprinkler type fashion. XAM also has the AI English and Russian speech. The F16 sounds cool. 761MB download.

All 3 mods add a good visceral quality to the game. Like the ear ringing and dazed after effects of nearby explosions, though ECS doesn't seem as complete since standing near a firing tank doesn't create the effect like it will in the other 2 mods.

I must try the SLX mod and the zGuba Compact Fix Pack.

@xiirudeboyzz Get a better graphics card you say? What a great suggestion haha. This video is from January of 2009. I've built a completely new rig since then. It would probably run ArmA and Fraps really great but instead I've moved on to ArmA 2. So be sure to check out my new laggy videos of ArmA 2. My hardware never keeps up with the new software unfortunately, that's just the way it is.

hmm yeah I wonder why. I've seen them run for cover and even scream and cuss with some of those mods. I might have set them to safe mode or whatever.

What's the best ARMA1 mod for improved AI, and not just enemy AI, but improved friendly AI as well!

SLX seems to only really improve the enemy AI so.

1st ACE Here is garbage, 2nd is quite cool 3rd is quite cool too, "SHO YO SELF MOTHA F**KA" :D, Its dissapointing that the sound sucks in ACE For Arma1 but ACE2 Sound kicks so much ass compared to all of these mods!

none of other two mods can change the way the game is played as much as the ACE mod. they're just not for comparison. ECS and XAM might be better than ACE in some ways, but altogether they're not even close.

@fubufooluk haha go run with a weighted vest, if you see black then something is wrong, they should just have a reduced player speed nothing more.

@MolonLabe84 the black outs while runing are because ur to tired carry less stuff and walk real soldiers cant run forever carrying all the guns in creation on there back ace is the best mod i have seen so realistic
