ATLANTA, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Featuring talented lyricists, infectious beats, crowd-pleasing performances and powerful affirmations of unity, the BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2007 celebrated the universal appeal of hip hop at Atlanta's Civic Center on Saturday, October 13. Hosted by actor/comedian Katt Williams, the two-hour awards show will premiere on BET Wednesday, October 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Kanye West kicked off the night performing two hits from his new album Graduation, "Can't Tell Me Nothing" and "Good Life," which immediately brought the audience to their feet. Crowd favorite Lil' Wayne world premiered a new song, the fiery "Gossip," which had fans mesmerized, and Nelly didn't hold anything back for his world premiere of "Go Lil Mama," bringing out an entire female drumline to accompany his dancers.

Hurricane Chris represented Louisiana with his catchy and entertaining performance of "Ay Bay Bay", and was later joined by fellow Louisiana rep Lil Boosie performing "Wipe Me Down." Common showed off his smooth lyrical prowess with "Drivin' Me Wild," while Playaz Circle featuring Lil' Wayne and surprise guest Ludacris (who wrote his verse especially for this performance) brought "Duffle Bag Boy" to the stage. Though T.I. was absent, Wyclef Jean, DJ Drama, Alfamega and Busta Rhymes held him down, performing a special set, including an ode to free speech and T.I.'s "Hurt." Rounding out the night was Soulja Boy, whose "Crank That" performance featured Superman capes and the wildly popular dance -- with countless audience members dancing along with him.

In addition to its sizzling performances, the BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2007 was, in essence, an extension of BET News' recent special HIP HOP VS. AMERICA, offering insights into the state of hip hop today. The show featured appearances by David Banner, MC Lyte and Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, who shared the reasons why they love hip hop. Katt Williams, host for the second year in a row, once again delivered with hilarious and smart commentary, while the influential Dr. Cornel West presented the "I Am Hip Hop" Icon Award to living hip hop legend KRS-One. Also participating in the BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2007 were two of the young men of the Jena 6, Carwin Jones and Bryant Purvis, who presented the Video of the Year award and thanked the hip hop community for its support.

THE BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2007 is sponsored by General Motors and Alltel Wireless.

If your paying attention to him licking his lips your prolly fall into the catergory of ignorant and stupid, and you better off clickin on soulja boy. Peace

  • LL licked his lips about 30 times in like 2 minutes.

  • FUNNY HOW WHEN NIGGA START LOSING MONEY IN THE GAME THEY SAY THE GAME IS FALLING OFF CREATIVELY. LL COOL J PUT OUT "BAD" WHICH MEANT HE WAS BAD!!! HELLO HYPOCRIT!!!

  • mlkmñ{lkññ{[

  • ll said literacy is more important than rap music. That is a profound statement.

  • Lets forget all the names and big songs from 1979-1999 and just talk about the tenets of what made Hip Hop attractive during that time, then ask yourself if you're still hearing Hip Hop these days. DJ'ing, can the average 24 year old that says he/she likes Hip Hop explain the most basic things about DJing? Creative wordplay, are the lyrics inventive or are artists living off the chorus (hook). Musicianship, for various reasons no one samples. is the playing any good?

    I say basically 0 for 3!!!

  • fuckin' clown...

  • LL chapstick.....

  • LL comes across as hypocritical here because his iconic status has been based on his having been "The Original Bad Boy of [Hip Hop]" for ages now. HE was the first of the "stupid mutha f@ck@s" to make bank dragging the creative outlet of so many other rockers through the mud in order to make a buck.

Then he used his youth at the time to legitimize it.

So what he probably SHOULD'VE said was, "It was me. I fucked it up; sorry."

  • LL should invest in some chapstick.

  • @thesouthrapsucks You do realize that you're not well? For you to come at me for something I stated over a year ago with concerns about a total stranger's sexuality shows your own deep seated issues. I noticed because it places awkward pauses in his diction. I think this is interesting since LL is a cultural icon in hiphop. It's sort of like hearing an English artist loose their accent when singing. To ease your tension I'll state that I'm a fan and I have no interest in performing fellatio.
