In Tibet, two youths have been given three-year jail sentences for posting photos of the Dalai Lama online. Thats according to French-based media watch group Reporters Without Borders.
The pair—identified as Gyaltsin and Nyima Wangdu—were convicted of communicating information to contacts outside China. The communist regime has made it illegal to have or share photos of the Tibetan spiritual leader.
Reporters Without Borders says the young Tibetans have been detained in the city of Lhasa since October 1st, but their families have not been given any information about them.
Reporters Without Borders is calling for their release, and called the convictions absurd.
The sentencing follows similar treatments of Tibetan bloggers and Internet users in recent months.
The Chinese regime is frequently criticized by the international community for its heavy-handed approach towards Tibetans.
