I'd like to change the topic of discussion slightly and ask what do people think about president Obama's stance on the creation of a mosque "near" the 911 site. my opinion is that since it is legal and constitutional it should be built. America used to be and still should be a place of religious tolerance. what are people's thoughts? I'd like to add I am not an American

@19chiefs57 So in your first post, when you referred to “illegal aliens,” you were excluding children. Good. But that puts you at odds w/US law, which calls them "illegal" & deports them.

And the Nazis did use illegal means to gain power. As did many governments, including ours (revolutions are illegal, no?). But once in power, a government’s laws (theirs against Jews, ours permitting slavery) are still the law. "Legal" can be evil, especially when used against people and not people's actions.

The Nazis secured much of their dominance by illegal means; there was no legal authorization before or after for killing of Brownshirt leaders in the Night of the Long Knives. An infant of course simply has no legal responsibility. I don't see much else to discuss, but wish you the best.

@19chiefs57 Sadly, the law isn't always a great measure of what's right or moral, as anyone who's seen Nazi German law knows. Hitler & the Nazis were evil to the core, but not "illegal" until they lost the War and were judged so by outsiders who invented new crimes with which to charge them. On the other hand, an infant brought into the US illegally by her parents becomes an “illegal person” without commiting a single voluntary, evil act. If people are their actions (your words), is that moral?

@conuropsis Separating people's actions from the people themselves logic is simple gobbledygook. People are their actions. I'm not collapsing anything thing other than liberal doublespeak and nonsense. People's illegal actions constitute illegal people, seeing it any other way, defies logic, a liberal specialty. You beg for an example, here's the extreme and obvious. Hitler is NOT illegal as a person, so you say, then you need your head dissected, examined and a compulsory lobotomy. Finito.

@19chiefs57 The point is, it's only people's actions that can be illegal, not people themselves. To collapse that distinction (especially as applied toward whole groups of people) is the first, fearful step toward hate and ultimately genocide — whether the groups are branded by class under Communism, by religion or ethnicity under the Nazis, or by race (in many countries, including, historically, the US). This isn't a liberal vs. conservative issue.

Oh, and compassion is NOT a "commodity."

Bizarre. "No human being is illegal" is a liberal rally point, many human beings are illegal; illegal aliens, illegal murderers, illegal lawbreakers and the list of frightening illegals goes on and on. Compassion is not a blanket unconditional commodity, one using their brain knows that. Comedy, cleverness and "compassion" do not negate REALITY.
