In this video, I inspect and service the glow plug system on my 1972 Mercedes 220D and once again attempt to start the car after 19 months.

  • OHHH soo close nearly there now attempt 8 sounded like it was going to start it's a mistery why it won't just start oh well it will be running soon stay tuned ;)

  • @ariessbrown2009 Indeed. It'll start. It needed a lot of coaxing when I bought it, too. Hoping to have it running this weekend (then again, I always say that.

  • Is the injection system bleeded from air?

It should start after such a long time.

Have you checked the valve clearance?

0.10 mm intake and 0.40 mm exhaust

  • @raggarn12 Yes, I bled the injection system. I did a full valve adjustment a week ago. I'm not sure what the exact issue is yet. This car is a basket case of small stuff. I'll find the problem.

  • are your glowplugs getting hot enough?

you should burn your fingers when they are hot enough

    last year i had a 200d 1977 with the same problems..(pullstarter)

i tried and i tried in the cold winter outside (freezing!!!)

finally with two batteries he started..

maybe the compresion is to low?

    is yours a pullstarter also?

  • 8There is not that much that can go wrong with a diesel:

    fuel delivery

    glow plugs

    blow by?

    pump timing

valve clearance, if I recall these older mercedes have a "choke" to help them start (sets the idle higher)

Also do not press the throttle while trying to start, that might be causing the flooding you seem to be getting.

  • @raggarn12 Good luck
