He is in a 5.5 gallon aquarium with plenty of natural plants. He has three little Neons to keep him company, but he does chase them around every once in a while. I may end up removing them. He seems quite happy - a betta only comes alive when it has space to swim in. The heated water helps, too, I think.

This is an easy setup, and it looks nice too. Not overly expensive either. I used a basic 5.5 gallon aquarium, a halogen desk lamp (looks nicer than a canopy), a hang-on-back filter, and a small submersible heater. I also used a very small stick-on thermometer, which looks much better than a floating one. The plants are mainly java fern and java moss - easy to keep alive and they grow quickly. Just a little bit of natural-colored gravel on the bottom finishes off the set-up. Snails keep the plants clean of algae and make my job of cleaning easier. It would be nice to exhange the neons and snails for a few shrimp, too.

  • where can I buy a halfmoon betta. I just bought my 7th betta in my life yesterday ad was looking into bettas. i think i am going to start obsessing over them. i know these bettas are around 25.00 ussually.

  • @ducktapeduck456 I bought this guy at a regular chain pet store in Halifax, NS. He was only $10 or $15... can't quite remember. They usually don't stock anything other than veiltails and crowntails, though. If you ask your pet store staff, they could tell you if they ever order these types of bettas.

  • he's a very nice hm.

  • @cherryquf Oh, thank you! I chose him for his coloring. There were others with fuller fins, but he shows up so nicely with that deep red.

  • Were his fins that long when you bought him? My local pet store had some half moom bettas but their fins looked nothing like that. i'm thinking because of the horrible conditions they are kept in at stores, their fins don't really become that nice until they are placed in an appropriate size tank.... difference between surviving and thriving!

  • so cute betta!

  • omg i have the delta tail version of your betta with the same colors hes awesome

  • LOOK AT HOW BEAUTIFUL HE IS!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ducktapeduck456 petco has them now :p check there :) or order online thats how I bought my halfmoon show betta but importing and transhippers usually end up about dollars in total when the original fish price was bucks..

  • doesnt look like a halfmoon hmm

  • @tanhanyao I used an Aquaclear hang-on-back filter. Very simple. And no CO2 for the plants... they were all plants with simple needs. I made sure of that. Growth was slow, but I didn't mind. To maintain, I just used a gravel syphon every week to clean the gravel, scrubbed down the walls, and clened up the plants a bit. Took 10 or 15 minutes, once a week!

  • @ducktapeduck456 try petco if theres any nearby. these days petco carry some great half moons and delta bettas.

  • Hmm a betta and The Beatles, how did you know that i liked both of those things? :D
