  • @fingerscarr it was done from the top of his head and actually powell had three takes,and this was the best one. underneath his improvising the chord structures are the basis for it and rock solid.It may take repeated listening.Powells improvising is very complex,and this is not to undermine tatums great work on it, In them I see two giants !

  • @mrboppman1 .....take your word for it , though it's plain as shoes on a snake that powell strays from the melody ... overimprovised .? ? ? ..... and not sure it was done off the top of his head in one take like tatum's version

  • @fingerscarr Powell didn't lose anything...his improvisation is far far more complex than Tatums !!

  • tatum never lost the melody the way powell does , which renders the frill smeaningless ! !
