Unlike other university orchestras in the University of Louisiana System the Northwestern State University Symphony is proud of the fact that it is made up of 99% student enrollment and doesn't rely on professors or community members to fill out the orchestra. This is a direct product of the depth of musicianship in the NSU Music Dept...which is the strongest in the state of Louisiana behind LSU.

The orchestra is under the baton of Dr. George Adams who now conducts the Idaho Falls Symphony Orchestra

  • DTNSU. think back to the spring of 99. Do you by any chance have a video of the Blue Shades Preformance? If you do, would you please put up the video :D thanx much

  • No, sorry. I don't have that Wind Symphony performance. There are several videos/recordings from college that I wish I had.

  • @peacehopelovemusic I remember that...they also played Celebration by Paul Creston. Wish I had that...but alas, I do not.

  • I wish I could see their Carmina Burana performance. That was absolutely GREAT! Extremely energitic. The performance was greatly enhaced by the NSU choir.

  • At one time that performance was on youtube...but it the guy who uploaded it was told to take it down. Not sure why...it was a public performance with no admission charged.

  • This is very good, but I thought Northwestern State University was in Oklahoma.

  • I cannot confirm or deny that...but I do know there is a Northwestern in Louisiana and Illinois, with the one in Illinois being the most well known and the one in Louisiana being 2nd...lol.

  • I have to play the english horn part in this. Pretty scary.com actually.

  • One of the better performances of this piece I have heard. The bones nail it at 4:11...and all the brass kicks it for the remainder. Nice work.

  • That Bass Trombonist is a tank, I love it. xD

  • @DTNSU He was told to take it down because free admission or not, it wasn't public domain. At least that's what I was told.

  • That bassoon is incrediblyy flat. But well done.
