The Organization of the Bhutanese Communities in America (OBCA) held its Second National Convention in Nashville, Tennessee from June 10 through June 12, 2011. The Bhutanese Community members from around the States participated in the Second National Convention as a historic community congregation after they began resettling in the US in 2008. This second convention marked the end of one year formative period transitioning OBCA from an interim period into a full fledge community institution.
On the first day organizer welcomed the representatives from various states followed by the amendment of the Bylaws till the late evening.
The inauguration of the second day was tracked by the OBCA song "BIVINNA JATA JAATI LE" followed by the welcome speech from the Vice Chairman of OBCA. The Chairman then reported the convention house with the activities of 2010. States and the cities representatives updated their state's situation till the noon. The Election of the Board of Directors and the executives is held on the same day after the lunch. Former MP of Bhutan Mr Hari Prd. Adhikari, the Chief Election Commissioner fairy conducted the election of 25 members out of 29 Board of Directors that represent 50 states based on regional coverage. Four members in the board will be nominated by the Chairman soon.
DJ Khaling is elected to the post of Chairman of the organization. Mr. Manaroth Khanal, the Vice Chairman and Hari Upreti, and Hari Dhakal are elected as Secretary and Treasurer respectively for its two-year tenure. A secret source reported that a team "Proposal Team" for unification led by Mr. K N Timsina held a talk with OBCA in the evening of the second day by 8:30 PM. The team is concerned with the division of Bhutanese in America into OBCA and ABA. The source didn't agree to disclose the details of the talk that went till 10:00 PM.
The third day is marked by various cultural shows. The representatives of local ECBOs, city council, police department, private and public health services, agencies, volunteers, well-wishers, and friends of the Bhutanese in America. Board of Directors of both OBCA and BCT are introduced to the people on the stage.
OBCA honored Journalist T P Mishra (BNS Editor) for his excellent work. OBCA also contributed the tornado victims in Massachusetts with 600 US dolls and supported the upcoming soccer tournament in Georgia with 800 US dollars. Simultaneously, BCT honored the volunteers in Tennessee for their generous works of help to the refugees.
