This is a video shot in full 1920x1080 resolution with a Hero Pro
HD video camera at the very fast "Big Willow" road racing track near
Rosemond, CA. Unfortunately, the YouTube processing of the video during upload significantly degrades the video clarity and quality in scenes when the car is on the track at speed. This Miata runs on E85 fuel (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline)
which burns cooler than straight gasoline and allows use of a higher
compression ratio and higher turbo boost. On the dyno the car makes about 300 rwhp
and about 270 lb-ft of torque. It hits 125 mph at redline on the main
straight at Willow Springs with a 200 lb passenger on-board, and lap
times with well used Hoosier R6 tires were in the 1:43 flat area.

  • Nice video. It looks like a very fast track.

Willow Springs is a very fast track and also great fun. In this Miata with a full first class track suspension the slowest corners at Willow are done at 70 mp. The fastest turn is the long double apex right hand sweeper that leads onto the front straight, and this Miata enters that turn at 110 mph and does the first half of the long turn at 100+ before breaking down to 90 for the second half and then accelerates onto the front straight at 100 mph and up to redline at 125 mph.

  • @rdopso, i dont think so, my solara has 304.5 whp, 301.7 lbft, wieghs about 3200lbs, i was doing about 127mph down the front str8, so if you were 70 in turns #3-4, your times would have been much quicker, what your saying just doesnt add up

  • @jetbtkng

This was a shake down day for this car which had several new and untested mods, and it had an engine misfire issue for the first three sessions which reduced the power by 50%. Once the car was running at full power I monitored corner speeds as a passenger via the speedo and the corners you note were done at 70 mph and fastest lap times for the car were around 1:43 flat -- from the video it is clear the car is easily capable of much quicker times with more time on that track.

  • @rdopso, edit bobs time was a 1;45..............

  • @rdopso turn #3 & #4 u werent going 70, i was there that weekend, & your times were the same as mine, basically, & was a bad driving day for me, i was driving my 2000 toyota solara, my bud bob was in his 99 camry, he did a 1;35, i dont see you on the list either, did u have a transponder on your car..........
