  • Subaru's got Boxer engines in them.

Just like old wv bugs and the boxer porches.

Two two cylinder facing left and right with the crankshaft between them.

Those cars tend to go til like 300.000 miles.

    I love SUBARU'S!;]

  • You should checkout a forum called UltimateSubaru. Lots of knowledgeable people with older Subaru's. I had the same engine (EA82) in my 1987 Subaru BRAT.

  • Oh yeah, might as well replace the radiator and thermostat. You wanna do everything possible to keep it from overheating. It'll pop the headgaskets and possibly crack the heads. These particular engines don't like overheating. You can also swap out that 4wd 3at with a 2wd 3at and get rid of all that weight in the rear unless you like the 4wd.

  • If you have a feedback carb you can switch to a regular carb. It would have been awesome to find a 2wd coupe of the same car. You'd be getting at LEAST 10mpg better.

  • hey I am a fan of the crabed, and drive an 87 today. some obvious tips: EGR has to be removed, the plenum is meant for two carbs, and the battery is too big. Put the smallest battery for a car you can find and the feedback carb may just return to normal. I have subscribed...when I see it exceed 60 mpg with your experiment I will be interested.

  • Hey if you need parts let me know cuz i know a junk yard with several GL Suby's in Aurora Colorado. Really I like the older ones because you can switch them in and out of AWD that alone can save on fuel mileage or give an extre3-5 mpg. As far as longevity a 100K miles on almost any Japanese engine is peanuts.

  • Wow i tried the HHO with my 93 Subaru but I made my own Smack booster. But I found one on ebay pre made dry cell or Tero cell for 94 bucks. Hey you can't beat their price! For time and effort saving. Sure you can make the Smack but it is a hassal! But there is another one made in India I believe you can buy for about $200.00 but it is like the smack wet cell. Or Smack makes a dry or Tero cell for about $275.00. I would guess your fuel mileage to be around 30-32 stock little less with AWD. .
