The Sig Saur P226 22LR was my first handgun purchase. I was looking for a great training tool and something I could afford to shoot but expand on as funds became available. After tons of research and watching Nutnfancys video about the P229 22LR I was sold. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqcTuE_3pso ) I have put thousands and thousands of rounds through the 22LR and after the mentioned break in period, about 500-1000 rds, the weapon has functioned great. The only malfunctions I have been getting have been ammo issues; I buy all bulk ammo from Wally World and have never shot any mini mag or any other high quality 22LR through the weapon. The only gripe some may have with the P226 22LR is the fact that it does not lock back on the last round. This has not been an issue for me and I simply use the lack of lock back as yet another training aspect of the handgun. When I get the click I simply roll into a tap-rack-bang drill. When I am feeling adventurous I treat it like a double feed and go into a tap-rack-click-strip the mag-rack-rack-see that its clear-ram a new mag home-rack-bang. I later bought the 40S&W X-Change Kit from SIG and now have a great home defense/WROL handgun and when combined with the 22LR upper I have a great training and really fun plinking firearm as well. I have also used the 22LR as an ice breaker for any of my friends who were new to handguns or just plain nervous about the recoil. I bought the P226 22LR for $525 and the X-Change Kit was $399 which has been WELL worth it. The X-Change kit came with one 10 round mag (as shown), I recommend MecGar 15 Round mags, and the slide is equipped with green night sights, which are REALLY cool! Of course the prices are subject to change and as Nutn says your mileage may vary. Have fun, be safe, and train hard! Shout out to all the TNPers out there!

  • Fellow TNPer here. I just picked up one of these yesterday and I am very excited to take it out. Based off your review it sounds as if your break in consisted of a basic cleaning and a 550 box of federal. Did you do anything else during break in? Also, now that you have had this gun for a while is there anything you have noticed good or bad?

  • @MattyLite71 All I did was shoot it and shoot it some more! =) I have since bought a 9mm upper and I like shooting the 9mm a lot better than the 40. Not only is the 9 a ton cheaper but the 9mm holds 5 more rounds in the mecgars with the extended base plate (20 rnds). I actually went out today and ran 20 Corbon 125 +P 9mm through it and it fed and fired great! Both the 40 and 9mm have functioned flawlessly and the I have run the 9 kit very hard (1000 rnd per day classes, competitions etc).

  • How long did it take to receive your new barrel from sig?

  • @tmdbudlightfan You get an entire upper not just the barrel. It took a couple weeks when I got it but thats when you could only get them direct from SIG. Now you can go to just about any online shop and get any upper you want.

  • question.....is the lower the same or same quality as the standard sig 226???

i wouldnt want to buy the cheaper gun,try to add the more powerfull upper on it,and not get the performance or reliability as the true 226.

  • @crambone34 Its exactly the same frame. I have shot thousands of 40 through it with no problems.

  • Shoot it and shoot it some more definitely works for me. Sounds like I have already set my weekend plans. 9mm will be the choice for me as it will be more economical given the rds I am planning to shoot. Thanks for the feedback.

  • The 22LR uses the same exact frame as any other P226 hence why you can change back and forth between whatever caliber you want. If I wanted a 9mm all I would have to do is buy the 9mm xchange kit, I could also get a 357 sig if I wanted as well. I all ready have a 40sw as shown in the video. They also just sell the 22LR conversion. The 2LRupper has its own unique spring, spring guide, slide, and barrel.

  • I already have a Sig p226 9mm, Can I use the X change in 9mm as just a back up for parts lets say. Barrel, slide, guide spring etc. Or is the 22lr classic smaller than the regular p226? Looking for a new black slide with new barrel to replace my two tone slide also..

  • great review thumbs up sir
