Wellington hip-hop crew Upper Hutt Posse hit Auckland like a gale-force southerie in the late-1980's with sell-out live dates and explosive performances. Fronted by incendiary frontman Dean Hapeta (D-Word), the Posse boasted extraordinary talent in the form of teenage female rapper Teremoana Rapley and funkmeister Darryl Thompson (DLT), MC's Wiya and Acid Dread and MC B-Ware. The debut album "Against The Flow" - released on Southside and co-produced by Simon Lynch - is generally regarded as NZ's first hip-hop album. The single "That's The Beat" was released to critical acclaim and this long-lost video shows the Posse in all their youthful glory.

There was a music show on Friday nights on TV2 that would play all the good vids, circa 89/90/91.
Can't remember the name of it but I'm glad it happened as otherwise we might not have seen or heard of groups like the Posse.
