@TopperHey They went to it after several accidents at the Indy500 involving Gasoline, which created thick black plumes and made it impossible for everybody else to see what was going on and where help needed to be sent to.

I got to give it up to the cameraman and crew as they felt it caught fire right away and bailed out of there.

I honestly can't believe that a professional outfit would be OK with invisible fire. It's an absurd risk to just do nothing about, when you think about it.

wouldn't it be increadibly simple to equip at least two or three members from firefighting team with thermal glasses?
-
based on that comment i guess u inhale it daily?
-
they now add gasoline to the fuel ... one major reason is to help visualize fires.

Great information! I appreciate you sharing this!
Water is the besy extinguisher for a methanol fire because it dilutes the alcohol content to a non-combustible state. (trust me.. I used to be a pit lane fire man for Indy cars) Around 199 we also began adding a rapid cool-down additive to our water extinguishers (not the buckets) that removes the heat from fire. it's a vegetable-derived product called ColdFire and comes in a spray can which also great to have on hand in the kitchen. It'll basically kill any small fire.
