Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Instructors Tony Grano and Toby Flaget wrapped up F.O.R.C.E. Responder "Critical Incident / Active Shooter" Training at the Toledo Police Academy in Ohio on April 21, 2011. Over 20 Police Officers attended this Departmental Instructor Certification course. The objective of the course is to prepare First Responders for any active shooter they may come up against with simple yet effective Small Team Tactics.
In this first-person video captured on Day One of the training, a 5-Man Team moves through a school, using blow-by room scan techniques and rapid team transitions to quickly move toward the potential threat. The course also covers dynamic entries for when a building needs to be cleared room by room.
Video was shot to help students critique each other for areas of improvement throughout the course. In many cases, the students were able to correct their own mistakes, such as flagging issues, without the need for the instructor to intervene.
Agreed. That's what made the helmet cam so usefull. It showed officers doing things that they didn't think they were actually doing. Once they see themselves doing it once, they usually don't do it again. Good training tool.
