  • no no no !!!

Only ' Juice Newton ' can sing this song !!

    and before i cause a revolt ..

    I Love Olivia Newto -John.

  • @SaintMeran: This song was written in 1968, by Chip Taylor, (real name: James Voight), who also wrote other hits like "Wild Thing", and "Tell it Like it Is". Merrilee Rush first recorded it in '68; it was a 60s classic. She had the best dynamic range of any of the female vocalists who attempted this song; it has a very demanding range, and she was up to the challenge. Sadly, Olivia was not. (Most other vocalists had to change the notes a bit to handle it). And, BTW, James V. IS Jon's brother.

  • @breffnipark I love Olivia too, but Juice is the only one whose version I ever liked. :)

  • @AetroyayorteA: Not an opinion to state that they were obscure, not a bit of it. Not a single person I asked had ever heard of them. That, by definition, makes them obscure. And I know people from all over the country, even quite a few folks from overseas too. And to say someone did not make national airplay is not a matter of opinion either. There are covers of virtually any famous song out there on youtube. Most are obscure, and will not figure into any comparison of covers.

  • @breffnipark the only difference was production, this recording is flat and direct, Juice Newton utilized massive reverb etc, for a more produced ambient sound/for epic effect.

  • @fancifulfilly that's just your opinion, you realize that don't you? don't state things as if you're the God of reality.

  • @zibbyzubb I think the Pretenders' version is up there with Merrilee's, but other than that, yeah.

  • I think I'd take either Merrilee Rush's or the Pretenders' version over Juice Newton's, and I like Juice Newton.

  • @mikeyq6 Really??? Run a search on youtube, or Amazon, and you will find several excellent renditions sung by Chip Taylor.

  • Merrilee Rush first then Juice Newton. No others can sing this song.

  • @scudmtbuoy Chip Taylor wrote it, he didn't sing it!

  • @johnnyfarout i mean that good though if you can imagine
