Bought my '81 XJ650 for $350. It had been sitting for three years. I rebuilt the carbs, front brake caliper, master cyl, starter, fork dampener assy, got new tires, replaced OEM brake lines with new from HEL. Replaced OEM headlight relay with solid state relay from Comagination. Replaced OEM flasher with standard flasher from Pep Boys; except auto cancelling feature no longer works. Replaced old rusty hardware with new stainless. Now I have one great bike.

Any idea where to find new exhaust for this bike? I have one too, the only issue is there are rust holes in the exhaust.

You are thinking about the inside?I used PRO-15 made in Canada. You can watch a video from lunmad and see how he fixed his tank.
This is the smoothest idling XJ I've ever heard.

The switch assemble can be fixed by turning the assemble so that the switch is pointing up.then spray contact cleaner down it until it starts to work again. Also check the fuse box fuse. You can by contact cleaner at radio shack.
