Commenting on the incredible fine-tuning of the universe Dawkins resorts to Leslie's analogy of a man sentenced to death by firing squad. Dawkins writes:
"It is just possible that all 10 men... will miss their victim. With hindsight the survivor who finds himself in a position to refelect upon his luck can cheerfully say, 'Well obvioulsy they all missed, or I wouldn't be here thinking about it.' But he could still be forgiven for wondering why they all missed, and toy with the hypothesis they were all bribed or drunk. THIS OBJECTION CAN BE ANSWERED BY THE SUGGESTION, THAT THERE ARE MANY UNIVERSES CO-EXISTING LIKE BUBBLES OF FOAM IN A 'MULTIVERSE'. ...the mutiverse as a whole has a plethora of alternative sets of by-laws... we have to be in one of those universes whose by-laws happened to be propitious to our eventual evolution." God Delusion pp.173-174
Rees who Dawkins invokes (as supporting this idea) to back up his metaphysical multiverse escape hatch states that the multiverse theory while an attractive option to himself is "conjectural" and "speculative" (Just Six Numbers pg.166 & 168). In others words there is absolutely no evidence for it!
