American McGee's Alice

I feel like YouTube whoring.

Ah, Alice, one of the more unique games I played. Sure it's a basic 3rd person shooter, or platformer, whatever you want to call it, but I just love the twisted Alice in Wonderland theme.

Basically, shortly after the original stories take place, her parents die in a fire, she escapes in time, and goes insane. They take her into an Asylum, and years later, she follows the white rabbit to Wonderland again, and finds out the Queen of Hearts took over Wonderland, and for whatever reason Alice wants to kill her, so she goes along killing certain bosses (characters from the books like The Duchess, Mad Hatter, Tweedle Dum & Tweedle Dee, and the Jabberwock.)

And she kills the Queen and finally regains her Sanity, or she dies and goes insane forever. Basically, you run around and kill shit.

The music was unique and very cool. Composed by former NIИ drummer Chris Vrenna, its made completely of vintage toys and music boxes.

I think Psychonauts is one. Never played it, but I'm going to get it. I heard it was a very underrated game.

I don't quite know any game like Alice. It's just unique I guess.

I played Psychonauts through GameTap...I wasn't impressed, its basically another platformer with the same camera problems. Story isn't quite kiddie enough but not adult enough...I dunno, it wasn't for me.

You might try American McGee's Grimm, exclusive to GameTap. I haven't played it, my vid card doesn't have the proper shader version : ( but I've yet to find another game like Alice. The atmosphere is unparalleled, and I want a sequel/remake/something!

You're in luck, a sequel was announced on the 19th. And American McGee is on the team for it, so there's a chance it might not suck. I still have to play Psychonauts sometime though, I want to check it out.

Decent gameplay, great art design. I had forgotten how good the script and the voice acting is in this game (the former is not quite up to Lewis Carroll's literary standards, obviously, but still a good try).
