So, um, er, this is the progress on my 5egame (incarnation four). Annoying music and all.
Now, ironically, in high definition!
This project was initially supposed to be an entry for the 5 elements weekly(!) gamedev challenge, but I always got bogged down in the details, then grew tired of the game I was working on. This is the fourth one and the one I've spent the most time on of the four games. Mostly because I always wanted to make something in the visual style of the old adventure games. I definitely had the most fun writing shaders to get to that look; the colors are converted in realtime to a dithered 16 color ega palette, then there's an upscaler that retains the pixel blockiness with some careful filtering rather than just nearest neighbor (which looks bad when the upscaled resolution isn't a multiple of the internal one), the bushes are basically spheres with noisy luminosity and discard that depend on the normal (to get the noise brush effect commonly used for vegetation in Sierra games).
I uploaded this video as a convenient way to show friends my current progress on the game, but I've been planning to make it a regular event.
I might upload some videos of the previous games, if I figure it's something worth watching.
Oh, HD is hugely good quality :o

Yeah, it came out nice, but I'm going to try to see if I can't figure out the format settings I need to get "higher quality," so that you won't have to click on the HD button. Doesn't make sense to upscale something that is natively 320x200 to 1280x720 just to get the bitrate I need.
I'll probably have it sorted out by the time I'm uploading the next progress vid.
