  • Cirrus and CAPS, AWESOME!!! ALL GA should have a chute, it's just that simple!

  • what caused the upset? Was this spatial disorientation? What was the weather? I'm a new Private starting Instrument soon so this sort of thing is very informative. Thanks.

  • The aircraft was a total loss. No other factors involved.

  • I think eveybody agrees that walking away is great news! My other question is, does anybody know the extent of damage incured, and was there other factors involved in this, other than being disoriented?

  • @mjkobb The pilot found himself in an unusual attitude, that is, upside down. He instinctively pulled up, which worsened the situation. Being well trained, he knew it was bad and pulled the chute. About 500 AGL, 195 kts toward the ground. It deployed, put him upright and he hit immediately. Walked away and called 911 to report his GPS position.

  • Well, a little more background on this would sure be great, given that we can't hear 7CB's transmissions during the relevant moments! What happened? Why did he have to deploy CAPS?

  • Wow.
