@slzaker I remember watching Shuttle launches on TV as a kid during the 80s. What happened was that NASA stopped pushing the envelope. They stopped Apollo, and instead of taking the next logical step and begin a serious Mars program, they took a step back and focused on LEO operations; rather mundane stuff compared to WALKING ON MARS.
Then, they started to focus on robotic probes exploring space; people aren't interested in a lifeless robot, they are interested in real human exploration.

@EncoreEnterprisesLLC They don't push the envelope anymore; humans get excited about HUMANS exploring space (what a concept!). If NASA pushed plans to put men on Mars, you can bet that America would once again be riveted.

Interesting. It seems that other countries like China and Russia are going to get manned people on the moon in the next 30 or so year.

I personally think NASA is awesome, but they are no longer relevant as their contributions to technology go uncredited and their most miraculous acheivements are 40 years in the past or a decade into the future. And without humans being on the forefront of the exploration, people are not actively involved in an administration that once was and will once again be great, but for now, like i said, irrelevant.
