My Father talks about his time in the Navy during WW2. He gets very emotional about some of the things he talks about. He forgot some of the dates. He said he joined the navy in 47 but it was in 1942. The ASW action he speaks about is a japanese submarine kill as part of a 4 ship battle group that sunk 6 submarines in a two week period. 5 kills were credited to the USS England. My dads ship was the USS Raby along with USS George and I can't remember the other.

  • We lost Dad on September 17, 2011 after a year long battle with cancer. He had no pain. we were blessed to be able to tell him how much we loved him before he deployed to heaven. He was my Hero and my role model and I will carry on what he taught me to my children. Fair Winds and Following Seas..

  • Here is a book written by John Williamson he was the CO of the USS England DE 635. Aftter my dad had read this book it brought back the memoriors of friends lost during the war. The England was known for sinking 6 Japenese subs in 12 days. So any how here it is; "ANTISUBMARINE WARRIOR IN THE PACIFIC" by JOHN WILLIAMSON

  • My dad served on the USS England DE 635. I loved listening to his stories, usually only about the good times they all had rarely did he talk about his buddies that had been killed. I had the honor of attending a reunion of the England with my dad in San Francisco. I say "Honor" because I heard from his shipmatesthe accounts of this glorious ship during the war. My dad past away Apr 2008, I would give anything to hear one of his stories. God Bless the GREATEST GENERATION our fathers.

  • My father was a gunners mate on the Raby. His name was Bill Saveall. He was on the Raby 12-7-1943 to 12-24-1944.

  • @MBOYA22 Thanks for this posting and I sent one in return....my dad and yours apparently served similarily and different..Bless them both. :)

  • My dad was the quarter master I think the captains name was Wilson but I could be wrong....3-4 months after serving his time and was released the DE England 635 was hit by a Japanese kamakazi....lots of the damage was on the upper deck where he would have been. My dad always felt honored and lucky to serve on this great escort.

  • Didn't see my posting so sorry if this is a repeat. My dad passed July 2, 2011 and he served on the DE USS England 635...last of the best generation....not many of these guys left. Taps to you and yours and mine. The sacrifices made that no one seems to care about today. So sad.

  • What an honorable man. My dad just past away July 2, 2011 and he served on the DE USS england 635..(he was 88) he told me lots of stories and how lucky he was to survive. Bless this man, my dad and all those who sacrificed the most to produce a useless generation of people who choose to burn our flag. The greatest generation is almost gone and not much to replace it. Taps to you sir and all the others who lost the most. God Bless America...hope we wake up!

  • THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE SIR. I WAS A MEMBER OF THE USS ENGLAND CG-22 FROM 1990-1993.
