VAUGHAN, ON -- In the second-to-last match of Sunday's Ontario Cup Finals played under the waning light of a cool September evening on the Ontario Soccer Centre's Turf Field, the Thunder Bay Chill met the North Mississauga Panthers to decide the Under 17 Boys Tier 2 Ontario Cup Champion.

The local Panthers squad came on full strength and the Chill were pumped and showed no sign of travel fatigue despite coming all the way from Thunder Bay -- 600 km as the crow flies and a one-hour flight, or 1,400 km by road and a 14-hour car trip from Toronto!

The Chill wasted no time getting down to the business at hand and scored their first marker in the 18th minute after a battle in mid-field, which led to a long pass landing inside the box where #18 Mitchell Voell took an easy shot to slip the ball past the keeper and into the net.

Continuing their attack, Thunder Bay scored their second goal of the match in the 26th Minute when #23 Patrick Vanvelleghem found a hole in the Panthers' wall and casually tapped the ball home.

At the 35th-minute mark, a hand-ball by North Mississauga inside the box lead to a penalty kick by #6 Kristian Zanette who made no mistake to put the Chill into a commanding 3-0 lead at the end of the half.

The Thunder Bay Chill continued on their roll in the second half, scoring two more goals within 5 minutes of each other.

#6 Kristian Zanette's second goal of the game came in the 63rd minute when he collected the ball at centre-field, moved up the field to 30 yards out and struck a hard shot into the top-right corner.

Thunder Bay's 5th goal came when #23 Patrick Vanvelleghem scored his second of the game in the 68th minute when, after a scramble inside the box, the ball bounced off a player, then the goalie and then into the net.

That was the last goal of the game as The Chill's keepwr, #1 Mackenzie Pytyck kept a clean sheet and the Thunder Bay Chill were crowned Ontario Cup Champions.

Thunder Bay Chill 5 v 0 North Mississauga Panthers
