Cloak of a Culture

I see us struggling to fill the void left by the loss of cultures of integrity that once connected us to the world. I see my inspired and scrambling peers working to fill this void with new culture, largely comprised of scraps of the old. I hold on to a vision in which we reconnect to whatever the source is from which cultures of integrity originate. I started writing this poem after attending the Indigenous Poetry Showcase at the National Poetry Slam in 2005 and it remains an important piece to me. I'm currently working on expanding it into a five-poem performance.
