loved the concept of the show, but the douchebag shot himself w/a prop/blank gun. those things send out hot powder and paper. Somebody shot me in the ass w/one when i was little. it left a big burn on my cheek, and hurt like a mofo.

@krdragon6950 Agreed! I have thought that to.

If the show ran a few season Jon Erik Hexum maybe still alive!!

RIP! John Eric Hexum. I think his career was on the verge of really taking off when the accident happened.

@TheEHermit Yeah, I read that story as well, amazing, and as you probably know his death came when he was shooting his new series after this, Cover Up. If I remember, I think he only made 7 episodes before his accident. Too bad, I think his career was getting ready to take off.

This was my favorite show of that year. I also was told as a kid the show was canceled because of Hexum's (Phineas Bog's) accident while playing Russian Roulette with a gun loaded with a blank. But Voyagers was canceled for ratings. It was amazing to read on wikipedia about all the people he helped because he carried a organ donors card. He saved 4 people and restored vision to two more.

meeno, please tell him not to play with prop guns ..

@WorldTurnBlack A similar concept to Voyagers! cancellation would happen to a couple shows a couple of years later. During the 84-85 season, Knight Rider and Hardcastle and McCormick, which had been huge in the ratings on Sundays during the 83-84 season were declining during the 84-85 season due to CBS and the huge success of Murder: She Wrote. So, the networks, out of fear moved Knight Rider to Fridays and Hardcastle and McCormick to Mondays, and by the end of the 85-86 season they ended.

@WorldTurnBlack It wasn't violence that cancelled Voyagers! It was NBC's fear of having a regular show compete with 60 Minutes on CBS, despite Voyagers! got a 17 share in the ratings, which is good during the three network era. However, NBC decided to put a news show called Monitor to compete with 60 Minutes and it turned to be a flop for the 83-84 season and one of Brandon Tartikoff's few mistakes at NBC.
Today, the omni would be an iPhone app. and the guidebook would be in PDF format.

this was a great show, to bad it only lasted one season, and BTW Quantum Leap is based on an unused idea for Battlestar Galactica 1980
