Presenting Oliver's Hill at Frankston in Melbourne, Australia.

** Best viewed in 480p. **

ADDITIONAL INFO:
Named after James Oliver - a fisherman who built his cottage on top of the hill; the hill was later to accommodate many homes including that of Australian T.V. personality Graham Kennedy (1934 - 2005). With inspiring views of Frankston & Port Phillip, it has been treating travelers along Nepean Highway for many years. It has also been the subject for many artists, with the most prominent being Melbourne's own Frederick McCubbin (1855 - 1917).

  • This is the view my dad showed me from the top of Olivers Hill when I arrived from Scotland a few years ago, was dumbstruck!

Driven up & down that road numerous times & could never get bored of it. any of it.

My dad works at Mount Eliza so got a great drive everyday.

    Missing OZ, very jealous.

  • @scooteraus1 I love the view too. There are plans to establish a large marina at the base of Oliver's Hill, but it still won't affect the view as you are driving down. I don't know if you managed a visit to Melbourne's Arthur's Seat while you were here, but my other driving video shows the nice view you get driving down that as well. The hill itself was named after the Arthur's Seat landmark that you have in Edinburgh. Cheers. : )

  • ...great vids - beach road is beautiful...

  • Cheers for the comment, but in correction, it is Nepean Hwy. Beach Road, which terminates at Mordialloc, is also beautiful though. : )

  • I'm glad I moved to Frankston. Great beach, gorgeous chicks and eveything else. All within five mins of my house. AND... the air is clean down here!

  • Riding on swinging music!

  • Driven most of the best roads.

Arthur Seat & the peninsula down to the Queenscliff Sorrento ferry, Great Ocean Road (only as far as Warnabool), Dandanong Ranges, Phillip Island & back (did the race track tour too) & Princes Highway up to the Gold Coast & back to Bonbeach where my dad was living at the time.

Always manage to take the wrong way back from the city, got lost several times.

    Beautiful place, fantastic country.

  • As you know, it's less than an hour to the city from Frankston, and the Peninsula is a quick cruise. You point out that we've got a beach, and now we've also got all the shops you need. I think it is not only a nice place to live, but a convenient one as well. I've never heard of any axe murders taking place, but then I didn't know of a shooting massacre at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne in 1924 until I read about it. : )

  • haha awesum :) ill have a look. one thing i cant stand is people saying frankston is full of bogans lol. seriously its the most normal down to earth, clean suburb. 5 mins one way ur at the beach, 5 mins the other ur in the country............ ill never move. yeah i cant get over how much history is here, lol i think in the 1800's there was an axe murder on olivers hill :P..........lol

  • Born at Frankston hospital and lived in the area all my life. The location of what you mention is at 619 Nepean Hwy, Oliver's Hill. WBG created two cottages, the first called 'Gumnuts' and the other called 'Marnham' (no longer exists). They were the first WBG structures to be built in OZ, and were a bayside retreat for him and his wife. Another interesting structure on the hill is the Round House at 581 Nepean Hwy. My info comes from the Coastal Arts Discovery Trail booklet, available online.
