Traditional celebration in Bafican - Becoming a man #1

The circumcision celebrations occur every 4 or 20 years. As one elder explained it, this ritual is important: no matter where you are in the world, you have to come back come back to your village for the initiation. For the first ceremony, children are taken to the sacred wood, shaved, washed with sacred water, initiated then come back to the village. For the second one, young men are taken out of the village, healed and initiated by an elder, taught how to become a man as well.

Women are absolutely forbidden to go in certain places of the village which are reserved exclusively to men during this period. The celebration last for about a couple of weeks. Women and men dress up with this deep blue material, wear beads for the dancing.
