Please correct me where I'm mistaken.
My attempt to request an example of an instance where "blithely" is congruent with "joy" has met with some resistance. Is it that you can't give an example, didn't understand the request, or that such an example does not exist. The dictionary sitting beside me as I write associates blithe with cheerful and careless. I don't see where my usage is at all far from the mark.
Your comment does ignore the numerous dead and specifically discounts their innocence.
-
Look up the definition of Blithe it has more then one, that's where our first misunderstanding comes from.
Also my opinion is lacking many of the key elements of fiction so if your looking for stories that just fit your world view best of luck in your endeavors.
-
You don't read very well, or is it that you don't comprehend what you read?
Where in under what context has "blithely" ever been associated with "joy?"
I was bringing attention to the fact that you were purposely ignoring a major facet to the environment in present day Afghanistan.
I'm moving along now.
Nothing to see here.
When I desire to read fiction I tend to prefer a well written novel. Your poorly written diatribes are boring and a waste of bandwidth and other shared resources.
-
Um when did I ever take joy in the deaths of innocent as you implied.
While we haven't been perfect we still share a mutual goal and commitment with the people of Afghanistan to eradicate the organized extremist murder that is the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. History never remembers those who wish to appease such people.
-
How blithely you discount the scores of hundreds of civilians that died at the hands of US soldiers. Many of those civilians were in opposition to the Taliban. Holding that view didn't save their lives.
Your view is the modern telling of Manifest Destiny. The US has no justifiable reason to influence the internal politics of a sovereign nation. This gets in the way of your desire to justify means by their end result.
-
Only difference is the people of Afghanistan are on our side and want our help to beat the Taliban, 68% of the civilian population supports our presence. You'll also notice that as the surge has put more pressure on the enemy, they've become more desperate and started killing more indiscriminately, which in turn has lead to even more support from the people to our side.
Look at the recent history of the conflict not just one view.
-
No one has beat the Turks on their home field in two millennium. What pray tell makes the US excursion different?
Why again is the US in Afghanistan?
Let's see.... the Sep 11, 2001 hijackers that flew jets into Landmark bldgs were predominantly Saudi...Israel is the sole possessor of nuclear arms in the region..Oh yeah, now I remember. The Taliban, those damn turbaned religious leaders that wiped out opium poppy production. Yeah, they are the evil ones.
