Problem: Drew too much current through cig lighter, fried the circuit for the lighter and stereo; however, all fuses fine, so problem almost impossible to find/solve.

Solution: Forget dismantling entire car to find bad wire etc. Instead create a new circuit directly from battery! Also installed extra fuses in the line hidden behind the console, and of course cut a hole where the clock is supposed to be and put in a switch.

Total cost: ~$15!

  • Routed it through a switch so it would only drain the battery if the switch were left on, then the radio would be constantly powered and would have at least some power drain from the clock etc.
