Hello! I'm Kristin Volk with a UPI Headline Update on this Thursday, July 12, 2007.

Al-Qaeda is reportedly the strongest it's been since the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. That's according to a U.S. government analysis that says the group has found a safe haven in tribal areas of Pakistan. The news comes as government officials are warning that the U.S. is vulnerable to Al Qaeda despite security changes since September 11. Officials say they see more money, training and communications among the terror group members.

Military action at Islamabad's Red Mosque has ended. Pakistan forces took over the mosque yesterday from radical Islamic students. But there are concerns now whether this would set off reprisals by Islamic militants. Al-Qaeda's second in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, appeared in a recorded message on web sites requesting the students take revenge against Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's government. The military says at least 50 militants and nine security guards died in the mosque battle.

A new report out says the Bush Administration sees some satisfactory progress in Iraq. The White House report released today says there's improvement in eight of the eighteen benchmarks set by Congress. The analysis reportedly says that none of the military and political benchmarks have been fully met, and only in some cases there's been movement forward. This report is considered a midterm evaluation. The annual summary is due in September.

Family, friends and admires will have a chance this weekend to bid farewell to Lady Bird Johnson, widow of the late President Lyndon Johnson. The former first lady died yesterday of natural causes. She was 94. A private family service will be held tomorrow morning in Austin. Following that, Johnson's body will lie in repose for public viewing Friday afternoon to Saturday morning. A private funeral will take place later in the day on Saturday. Johnson will be buried in the family cemetery near Stonewall, Texas next to her husband who died in 1973.

  • [2.98] Whoever is the enemy of Allah and His angels and His apostles and Jibreel and Meekaeel, so surely Allah is the enemy of the unbelievers

Hey look at this...ITS FROM THE KORAN...man i thought they were the religion of peace....

  • This report is to HELP "Al Qiada" get media exposure but to do nothing about it. When this al"CIA"ta attacks they can say see we warned you about their Internet communication. ITS A PLAN TO ILLIMINATE THE INTERNET so the average American cant learn the TRUTH about the TRAITROS IN OUR GOVERNMENT THAT ARE USING al"CIA"ta to implement MARSHAL LAW AND TAKE OVER!!

  • Just remember this.. There are constitional laws in this country and laws that money institutions have. Which one has more influence do you think? Did you say money.. Right!

  • This isn't college football I don't like their ways either but the US made some dreadfully aweful permanant decisions that cheats the values of what constitional laws are founded on.
